The UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup – run by the UCI and Flanders Classics – is the premier series of the UCI Cyclo-cross International Calendar, bringing the world’s best riders to a spectacular festival of cycling each winter, attracting thousands of spectators to experience the thrill of fast and furious racing on the mud and across challenging obstacles.
Cameron Mason has been the lead Scottish rider in the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup in recent years, with the Linlithgow native finishing third at the round in Flamanville this winter.
Mason, the four-time British Champion said:
“It’s going to be the biggest moment in my career. I was super lucky to experience the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow but to have a Cyclo-Cross World Cup in my home country is career defining stuff.
It’ll be a real honour to be the current British Champion lining up on the start. I know there’s so much more to gain from an event like the Glasgow World Cup than just performance. I see the support that the cyclocross has every weekend, and just how special the sport is. It’s going to be so cool that the people of Scotland get to see it for themselves. It will add another layer to what will hopefully be a really good season next winter.”
The event will be the latest world-class cycling event to come Scotland, after the unprecedented success of the inaugural “super” UCI Cycling World Championships in 2023, the 2026 Commonwealth Games and builds more momentum to the 2027 Tour de France Grand Départ.
The second World Cup round to take place in Britain, and the first since Milton Keynes in 2014, the December event will be the biggest ever cyclocross event to happen in Scotland.
The discipline has seen continued growth in recent years, and today’s announcement follows on from the success of the 2024 British National Championships; the first major cyclo-cross event to come to Scotland. That event, held at Falkirk’s Callendar Park, were broadcast on the BBC for the first time and streamed to more than 120,000 viewers.
In 2023, British Cycling outlined a bold strategic major events vision which included bringing a round to Great Britain, and after months of determined work with key event partners to bring that ambition to life, the iconic series will return to these shores for only the second time in the event’s history.
The event, delivered by British Cycling Ventures (BCV) in partnership with Glasgow Life (the charity which delivers culture, events and active living in Glasgow) and EventScotland (part of VisitScotland), represents a significant milestone for BCV, aligning with its strategy to expand and elevate its major events portfolio. As well as delivering a world class sporting spectacle, the event in Glasgow – UK’s first UCI Bike City – will generate meaningful social and economic impact for local communities while inspiring future generations of riders.
Exclusive British Cycling Member pre-sale tickets open today (Tuesday 3 March 2026). General sale opens on Ticketmaster at 10am on Monday 9 March.
Head of Events at Scottish Cycling, Fraser Johnston said:
“It is a monumental moment seeing a UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup coming to Scotland for the first time. Scotland has a long and proud history of this discipline, a discipline which gives us the opportunity to showcase so much of our natural environment, rich heritage and stunning landscapes. From the Isles of Bute and Mull, to Knockburn Loch, Strathclyde Park, Callendar Park, Irvine Beach Park and more.
Kelvingrove Park joins a long list of Scottish venues which prove to be testing playgrounds for Cyclo-Cross. And now, as the world’s best get set to head to Glasgow, just on the periphery of the Kersteperiode, I’m sure we will put on a great show and cement ourselves in the international calendar “
Managing Director of British Cycling Ventures, Darren Henry, said:
“We are incredibly excited to bring the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup to Glasgow later this year. This is a significant moment in the delivery of our major events vision. It joins a wide-ranging portfolio of major events hosted and delivered by British Cycling, including the largest free to spectate sporting events in the country – the Lloyds Tour of Britain. Bringing world-class international racing to Great Britain inspires future generations and delivers real impact for local communities.
“Our pre-sale window is open from Friday 6 March, and I encourage everyone to sign up and be part of a festival of sport in Kelvingrove Park. Whether a family, a lifelong cycling fan or new to the sport entirely, this is an event not to be missed.”
Tomas Van Den Spiegel, CEO of Flanders Classics, said:
“We have been working on bringing a UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup event to Great Britain for several years and are delighted to be able to announce Glasgow for next winter. Introducing a new venue is always special, especially in a major city like Glasgow, and we are looking forward to a great collaboration with British Cycling.”
