National Circuit Series
Eilidh Shaw (Alba Development RT) was crowned queen of the National Circuit Series on Friday after claiming second place in Beverely, which was enough to secure victory in the Series standings.
Shaw came home second in the bunch sprint on the cobbles of Beverley, just three days after the Scottish circuit race champion second place finish in Colne, in the penultimate round of the summer series.
The Scottish team had further success with American Keira Bond claiming second in the overall series – by virtue of her success, including in the Sheffield GP. In the team standings, Alba Development RT took home a very creditable second position, in what’s been an excellent season for the Scottish outfit.
Lancaster GP
National Road Series duties returned on Sunday with the Lancaster Grand Prix in near perfect conditions.
Open
Series leader Tim Shoreman (Wheelbase CabTech Castelli) was looking to retain his series lead in Lancaster.
Scots Finn McHenry (The Cycling Academy) and Louis Moore (Project1) escaped into a strong early break. Moore suffered late on and dropped back, with a counterattack behind which included Lee Rosie (Wheelbase CabTech Castelli) making progress in an attritional race.
The break would survive for the win, with McHenry taking a credible fourth place finish as well as the King of the Hills competition. Hamish MacLaren and Lee Rosie would come home in 13th and 15th place, respectively.
Shoreman would also surrender the White Jersey of series leader, as we head into the late-season block of racing.
Female
Morven Yeoman (DAS-Hutchinson-Brother UK) has been another Scot having a breakout season in 2024. The Lanarkshire native was on the attack with a number of riders joining her before later being dropped.
Yeoman would be reeled in by the peloton with 40km to go, but with a whittled down field the race would break apart once again.
Former triathlete Lauren Dickson (Edinburgh RC) was the surprise package of the race, with the Scot working into the key move, joined by two DAS-Hutchinson-Brother UK riders.
Despite a late attack by winner Frankie Hall, Dickson was able to sprint her way to second, besting the more experience Tammy Miller from DAS, in a brilliant performance in Lancashire- that also saw her take the climbers competition.
After a number of escapees that were unable to reach the front three, the remains of the peloton would come home four minutes back with Eilidh Shaw (Alba Development RT) winning the bunch kick for ninth, with another strong performance by junior Arabella Blackburn (Shibden Apex) in 13th place.
Shaw’s sprint would see her rise to second place in the National Series rankings, as she aims to do a historic double, with the Scot only a point shy of leader Lucy Harris (Pro Noctis).
This Sunday sees the Scottish National Road Race Champs, which are set to be excitingly open, with any number of riders in contention for national honours.
Scottish Regional BMX
Sunday was the final round of the Scottish Regional BMX Series, and the Sun was well and truly out.
Broadwood was the venue with 67 riders in action throughout the day from hosts Cumbernauld Centurions, as well as Western Titans and Movement Park.
Lewis Cook (Centurions) stole the show in the merged 17- 29 category, Cook, a junior who is riding up with the seniors, pulled some healthy corner moves and took the win overall on this super-fast course, against senior riders to take the win.
It was a similar story from Eilidh Watson (Centurions) in the Female category, taking the victory.
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered, supported us and cheered us on form the sidelines, and the very best of luck for the Scots riders aiming for the British Championships in a few weeks time.
