UCI World Cup
The Andorran Pyrenean resort of Pal Arinsal is no stranger to elite mountain biking, and this weekend saw the latest round of the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series.
Charlie Aldridge (Cannondale FR) bounced back from a puncture in Friday’s short-track to equal his best World Cup result on Sunday.
Aldridge found himself in a lead group of six riders, with Tom Pidcock, which was blown apart when the Yorkshireman made his way to the front.
After half an hour of racing, the Crieff rider was in a battle for third with Matthias Azzaro, just 27 seconds behind the two leaders, but with a number of chasers just seconds behind.
Taking the last lap bell the Scot had gapped his rival by 10 seconds in the battle for third – and advantage he would hold to the line to claim his first third place finish in an elite World Cup.
Isla Short started as quick as a flash in the elite women’s race in Andorra. The Peebles rider led the field through the starting tour of the course, but would be subsumed into the fragmenting leading group on the single track.
Another solid showing from Short would see her come home in 24th place, continuing to build on a very strong season.

Friday’s Stage 6 to Mur-de-Bretagne saw Onley claim his first ever stage podium, with the Kelso Comet finishing third on the summit finish behind Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard.
Monday’s first mountain stage in the Massif Central saw another mature performance that retained his strong general classification placing, and put time into some key rivals.
After Tuesday’s rest day, the race heads into the Pyrenees with Onley sitting seventh, just 3 minutes 24 seconds down on new general classification leader Ben Healy.
