Archibald and Onley named Cyclists of the Year at Scottish Cycling Awards

Tour de France hero Oscar Onley and Madison World Champion Katie Archibald were named the Male and Female Riders of the Year at the Scottish Cycling Awards in Falkirk.

Katie Archibald was named the Female Rider of the Year. The Glaswegian track star claimed her second world madison title last month at the UCI Track Championships in Santiago.

On receipt of the award Archibald said:

“It feels particularly pertinent this year as I’ve moved my training base back in Glasgow. The results from the World Championships just past are a result of so many people at the sportscotland institute and Scottish Cycling and the whole hub I have up here.”

Kelso’s Oscar Onley claimed fourth place at the Tour de France in July, equalling the best performance by a Scot at the world’s most prestigious bike race. The Scots climber won two awards on Saturday evening.

Onley was named the HUPcc Male Rider of the Year for the second successive year, off the back of his Tour de France exploits and stage victory at the Tour de Suisse.

The Team Picnic-Post NL climber’s performance on Stage 18 of the Tour de France, where he claimed five minutes back on key rivals, was also voted the Scottish Cycling Moment of the Year.

Three individuals were honoured with receipt of the Scottish Cycling Badge of Honour – the highest honour the governing body can bestow.

Four-time Olympic medallist Jack Carlin, former Scottish Cycling President Kathy Gilchrist and track stalwart Tommy Banks were awarded the Badge of Honour.

Carlin said:

“I would never have dreamed as a young lad from Paisley to the travel the world. To wrap my career to be recognized by Scottish Cycling with the Badge of Honour to say you’ve done alright is very special. ”

Melanie Rowe was named the Joma Youth Rider of the Year. The Aberdeenshire rider has impressed throughout 2025 claiming six British titles, a bronze at the European Youth Olympic, and claiming a historic win at the Under-17 Tour of Flanders/Ronde van Vlaanderen.

There would be further success for the North East as Aberdeenshire-based Ythan Cycling Club were crowned the Digby Brown Club of the Year.

Coach Stevie Nimmo would be named the Club Coach of the Year, through his work with Western Titans, which has included supporting riers like Ruby Warren and Holly Diver buck the trend of English dominance in the discipline.

While the British BMX Series at Broadwood, Cumbernauld was named the Event of the Year. The Cumbernauld Centurions BMX Club once again showcased their exceptional hosting capabilities by organising Rounds 3 and 4 of the British Series, marking a significant milestone in the club’s history as they attracted over 800 riders each day, reaffirming Broadwood’s status as a premier BMX racing venue.

 

Glasgow Riderz coach Andrew Brewer was named Young Coach of the Year, for his work with the clubs’ youth mountain bike section. Andrew consistently goes above and beyond in inspiring, guiding, and supporting young riders both on and off the bike.

Fiona Ellis was awarded the Volunteer of the Year. Fiona’s tireless effort of volunteering at Falkirk Junior Bike Club sessions and major events such as the Scottish Youth Circuit Championships and British Cyclocross National Trophy. Perhaps most inspiring is Fiona’s impact as a role model, particularly for young girls. By taking part herself in mountain bike and cyclocross events, she shows that participation is about giving your best effort, regardless of finishing position.

Inspiring Participation Award went to Moray-based initiative Get on a Bike. The project was founded in 2023 to help people in Moray, who are living with long-term physical and mental health challenges, to discover the joy and benefits of cycling. With bikes generously donated via the Rock Up & Ride programme, and support from Moray Council and the National Lottery, the initiative has grown to become a registered charity with fourteen trained Trustees and Ride Leaders, guiding regular rides that help adults improve health, confidence, and wellbeing.
