Dundee Dragons became the first Limitless club in Scotland, joining the programme as a Focus Club. The Dragons were awarded a plaque to commemorate being awarded Focus Club status at their Experience the Worlds event at Dundee Regional Performance Centre in July 2023.
This event included a race element by allowing the participants with physical and sensory disabilities to complete timed laps of the velodrome or athletics track and was a huge success. Since then, the Dundee Dragons have continued running their weekend sessions in Dawson Park and have started handcycling sessions at Dundee Waterfront as well. Recently the hand pedalling Dragons’ riders reached the Tay Rail Bridge, under glorious blue skies.
The Limitless network in Scotland has now grown to include five Champion Clubs, with Clyde Cycle Park, Grampian Inclusive Cycling Bothies and Elgin Cycling Club joining Ythan Cycle Club and Dunfermline Cycling Club in the programme. All Limitless Champion and Focus Clubs embrace inclusivity and are committed to creating a welcoming club with inclusion underpinning all aspects of club activity.
At the 2023 Scottish Cycling Conference, we were joined by panel members Kevin Rattray and Graham MacBain from Dundee Dragons and Colin Allanach from Ythan Cycle Club, who shared all about the work they are doing in their respective clubs and how popular their adaptive cycling sessions are. Following on from such an inspirational session, we would like to invite any other clubs and groups in Scotland to join the Limitless network.
Limitless is helping to break down barriers and make cycling truly inclusive for everyone, by creating a pathway for disabled people into all forms of cycling. Any club, that can provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for disabled people can be part of Limitless.
