Charlie Aldridge signs off World Cup Season in style with Lake Placid victory

Charlie Aldridge was once again on the top step of the World Cup podium this weekend, taking a thrilling victory in the XCO season finale in Lake Placid. There was further Scottish success on the road, with Oscar Onley and Lauren Dickson both claiming third at the Giro dell’Emilia, alongside a busy weekend of Enduro and Cyclocross racing at home.

WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series

Perth native, Charlie Aldridge (Cannondale Factory Racing) signed off his 2026 UCI XCO World Cup campaign with a second career World Cup victory, taking a thrilling win at the Men’s Elite UCI XCO World Cup season finale in Lake Placid this weekend. The victory comes just 12 months after Aldridge secured his maiden World Cup win at the 2025 season finale in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada.

On a fast and technical course, Aldridge was among the riders to manage the demanding rock gardens and punchy climbs as the leading group was gradually whittled down. The Scot looked to control the race heading into the final lap but Filippo Colombo launched an attack through the rock garden to take the lead. Aldridge responded with a perfectly timed move, taking an alternative line to regain the advantage. The pair went head-to-head on the finishing straight with Aldridge holding off Colombo in a hard-fought sprint to the line to secure his victory.

Scottish Enduro Series

The final round of this year’s Scottish Enduro Series doubled as both the final round of the British National Enduro Series (BNES) and the 2026 Scottish Championships. Strong winds forced a change to the planned stages after the gondola was unable to run, but that did not deter the more than 300 riders who took to the trails around Nevis Range and Torlundy. Now in its second year, the series continues to grow, with the fourth and final round selling out and providing a competitive finale to the season.

William Brodie took the Senior Open title, recording the fastest time across the six stages and finishing 45 seconds ahead of Isaac Ellington, with Ben Allan completing the podium. Niamh Greig claimed the Senior Female title, with Naomi Metcalfe taking Silver. Oliver Johnstone was fastest across all six stages to take the Junior Open title, with Tomas McIntosh edging out Archie Martindale by just nine seconds to take Silver, leaving Archie with Bronze. In the Junior Female category, Ruth McDougall went fastest on five of the six stages to secure the title, with Isla Cant taking Silver and Eleya Mold Bronze.

Liam Moynihan claimed the Master 30 Open title, finishing just under a minute ahead of Calum Ross, with David Houston taking Bronze. Nagore Elu went fastest across all six stages to take the Master 30 Female title, with Katie May taking Silver, while Andrew Lochhead secured the Master 40 Open title ahead of Tom Simpson in Silver.

There were also strong performances from Scotland’s emerging XC and gravity talent. Zach Buchan, who has continued to show his strength across both disciplines, set a blistering 13:17.88 across the five stages contested by the Youth riders to take the Scottish Championship title, with Oscar Tanski taking Silver and Lachlan Craggie Bronze. Mia Jackson went fastest across the Youth Female stages to claim the title, with Megan Scibberas taking Silver. In the Juvenile category, another XC rider, Lily Cant, was the fastest woman on the hill across the day to take the title, with Izzy Blackman claiming Silver and Zunairah Mold Bronze.

The event was delivered through a strong collaboration between the Scottish Enduro Association, Nevis Range and Lochaber Trails Association, with the support of landowners Forestry and Land Scotland and JAMAHA. The series was supported by headline sponsors 20Twenty, alongside Pinned, Marin, Yeti and Cast, with Stogies providing the new Scottish Championship jerseys.

Giro dell’Emilia

It was a strong weekend for Scottish riders at the Giro dell’Emilia, with Oscar Onley (Netcompany INEOS) and Lauren Dickson (FDJ United-SUEZ) both securing third-place finishes across the men’s and women’s races.

Onley continued his strong run of form with an impressive third place at the Giro dell’Emilia, producing an aggressive ride across the 197km Italian classic. The Scot was quick to respond as the race came alive on the finishing circuits, following attacks from Matteo Jorgenson (Visma | Lease a Bike) and Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost) before making the front selection alongside Tom Pidcock (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) and Davide Piganzoli (Polti VisitMalta). Piganzoli eventually escaped on the final descent, but Onley fought all the way to the line, launching his sprint with 500m remaining. Onley’s determined finish secured a well-earned third place, rewarding an aggressive ride in the closing stages of the race.

In the women’s race, Dickson also claimed third at the Giro dell’Emilia Donne. Alessia Vigilia (UNO-X Mobility) took a surprise solo victory after attacking with 40km remaining, while Sarah Van Dam (Visma-Lease a Bike) finished second. Dickson crossed the line 14 seconds behind Vigilia to secure her place on the podium and add another strong result to her season.

HUPcc Scottish Cyclocross Series

The HUPcc Scottish Cyclocross Series got underway in earnest at the Black Isle Showground in Muir of Ord, with the usual cyclocross buzz. Leading the way was recent GB MTB international Ishbel Strathdee (Team HUP) who took the Senior Female victory, with Olivia Poole (Specialized) pushing her hard and taking the Junior win. In the Open race it was Charles Fletcher who took the victory, the race unfortunately coming to a premature end due to an injured rider on the course.

Earlier there was a Falkirk Junior Bike Club double in the U16 category; Gregor McNaught and Isla Reekie taking impressive wins, whilst Alex Faraday (Edinburgh RC) and Sophie Tomb (Glasgow Riderz) took the U14 victories, with Ruaridh Fulton (West Lothian Clarion CC) also secured the Junior Open title.

Full results and race report will be available at scottishcx.org.uk shortly.
