Youth A Female
British champion Melanie Rowe (Deeside Thistle) added the Scottish national bands to her increasing collection of titles in Kincardine on Saturday.
The Aberdeenshire riders was joined by Izzy Barbour (Edinburgh RC) at the head of the race, with the two working well as the gusting wind was briefly joined by showers of rain.
Rowe would ride clear in the final stages to take gold – with Barbour’s excellent efforts rewarded with silver. Behind Millie Boothman (Glasgow Riderz) would take a worthy bronze.
Youth A Open
After Welsh rider Finlay Storrie (GKR Racing) attacked to win solo, the Scottish national title would be decided in the groups behind.
Xander Graham (Grit Cartel) found himself off the front of the race, in the early stages, with the swirling winds making it difficult for riders to follow in behind.
Behind, Innes Long (Deeside Thistle), Archie Whittemore (Clifton CC) and Fraser Gemmell (West Lothian Clarion) were in amongst groups of riders chasing down the multi-disciplined Graham – with the deficit hovering around 20 seconds.
Graham would power on though, using the bike-handling skills to much success on the opening corner – utilise the full width of the tarmac, eeking out extra seconds, to consolidate his lead.
Come the chequered flag, Graham would take the win by just over a minute ahead of Whittemore – with Long taking the bronze – 15 seconds further back.
Youth B Female
Eilidh Scally (Johnstone Wheelers) rode away from the rest of the Under-14 field to take the Youth B Female title.
The Johnstone Jet kept a steady tempo and was able to distance the rest of the field. Olivia Laing (Southport CC) came home on the same lap in second place – to take silver – while Boo Williams (Clydesdale Colts) claimed the bronze medal for a strong showing in third.
Youth B Open
Josh Stewart (SteppingStanes) rode to a fantastic solo win in the Under-14 event. The Cyclocross, track, road and MTB rider dominated – lapping all but one rider to take a well-earned victory.
Host club Falkirk Junior Bike Club also had a lot to cheer in the Youth B race, with Gregor McNaught and Alexander Mullen claiming their spots on the podium in silver and bronze, respectively.
McNaught rode solo into second – while Mullen won the bunch kick for third
Youth C
There was another great ride from a SteppingStanes young rider, as Cobey S. claimed the Under-12 open win, with Alasdair O. (Johnstone Wheelers) and Cody Mc. (Falkirk Junior BC) for silver and bronze.
In the female event, Rose M. (Falkirk Junior BC) scored the win – by just six seconds with Isla S. (Johnstone Wheelers) and Sophie T. (Glasgow Riderz) just behind in second and third.
Team Relay
A non-Championship event, the day’s racing at the lovely estate in Kincardine was finished with a Team Relay, similar to that seen in Cyclocross and Mountain Biking – with the team of SteppingStanes – Izzy Barbour, Josh Stewart, Cobey and Mitch on winning.
A huge thanks to the officials and volunteers for making the racing possible – in the hellish conditions – and to the riders for braving them.
You can still enter the Time Trial Championships.
Arbroath will host the Scottish National Youth and Olympic Time Trial Champs on 24th August and entries close Tomorrow (Sunday)
