The weather just about held off on Sunday afternoon in the North West of Glasgow, as 16 Scottish National titles were up for grabs at Knightswood BMX Centre.
Harrison Bell bounced back from a late scare from Ben Fitzsimmons to win out in the Open 17-29. After claiming the first two motos, Bell was knocked down to third after an excellent ride from Fitzsimmons. Bell would be made to work very hard for his national champions crown – with the Western Titans rider holding Fitzsimmons off in the final moto to take the top step of the podium.
Elizabeth Graham won out in what was arguably the best battle of the day in the Female 11-12s; after trading motos with Holly Hume, Graham came back from third to first in the final two bends to take victory in the third of four – before securing victory in the final race. Hume took the silver with Aria-Rose Lee in bronze.
Two British medallists were battling for top honours in the 13-14s, with Holly Diver and Ruby Warren both looking to add Scottish success to their British medals. Warren showed her level, riding in combined motos with riders two age group above, to take a clean sweep, with Diver taking silver. Eilidh Watson claimed top honours in the 15-16 and Tillie McCrum in the 17-29 Female.
There was a clean sweep of wins from Lewis Collins-Nimmo in the 15-16, with Cooper McCrum taking silver and David Fairlie bronze. Brodie Geddes would follow suit in the 13-14 category from Fergus Souter and Daniel Borokinni.
The Manchester Derby might have been on today, but there was definitely a lot for Manchester BMX Clubs’ Marcus Mullen to celebrate – taking a clean sweep of motos, before winning in the final of the Boys 11-12 category, from Moray Watson and Finlay Shaw. Centurions’ Ian Archibald bested Fraser Watson to take the veteran title.
The afternoon’s racing was kicked off by the cruisers, Cooper McCrum won out in the 13-16 event, with Eilidh Watson pushing him close in their combined motos – with Watson taking the Female title.
In the veteran cruiser categories, Brett Archibald took a clean sweep in the motos to take the 50+ category, while Fraser Watson claimed the 30-49 top honours.
A huge thanks to Movement Park for hosting and for the whole team at Scottish Regional BMX for their hard work in supporting the event.
