In response to feedback from both current and former participants, we have redesigned our Future Leaders programme (formerly our Young People’s Panel) to ensure it remains an engaging and compelling opportunity. The updated structure continues to provide participants with valuable qualifications and practical experience across a diverse range of settings.
Key elements of the original programme—such as residential experiences, event volunteering, SCQF-accredited qualifications, and participation in cycling-specific focus groups—have been retained. In addition, we have expanded the offering to include opportunities for collaboration with peers from similar programmes across different sports and countries, as well as training sessions delivered by a range of external partners.
There is also built in opportunities for young people to delve deeper into areas of both their local club and Scottish Cycling, based on their interest e.g. capturing content, event delivery or development of the Women’s and Girls space.
This is more than just a training opportunity — it’s a chance to be part of a dynamic and supportive environment where your dedication will shape your success. The more energy and effort you put into the programme, the more value and growth you’ll gain from it in return.
Our ambition is for the Future Leaders programme to build on the success of previous cohorts, many of whom have used the skills and experiences gained to access further education and employment opportunities—particularly within the cycling industry. The programme has also been designed to allow participants the opportunity to complete voluntary hours required as part of other leadership programmes such as Duke of Edinburgh.
The programme spans two years, with sessions and check-ins occurring approximately every six weeks for 2 years. These will be delivered through a combination of in-person and online formats, and regular attendance is expected. Participants will also receive Future Leaders-branded T-shirts and Scottish Cycling jackets as part of their involvement.
As part of the application process, shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an in-person interview day on Saturday 23rd August, taking place at the Stirling Court Hotel. Successful applicants will then be invited to take part in an overnight residential at Glenmore Lodge on Saturday 13th September — a key opportunity to build connections, engage in team activities, and get fully immersed in the programme experience.
To apply, please complete the application form available here.
