Established by the International Working Group (IWG) on Women & Sport, the Brighton Plus Helsinki Declaration is a globally recognised framework that supports the full participation of women and girls in sport, at every level and in every role.
By signing the Declaration, Scottish Cycling joins a growing network of organisations working to make sport more inclusive and equitable, helping women and girls to participate, progress and achieve.
The Declaration was signed by Michelle Borland, Chair of Scottish Cycling’s Women & Girls Committee and Non-Executive Director, at the annual Scottish Women in Sport Conference, alongside representatives from five other sports.
The signing is the latest step in Scottish Cycling’s work to create sustainable and equitable opportunities for women and girls, following the launch of its dedicated Women & Girls Strategy in October 2024.
Speaking about the significance of the Declaration, Michelle Borland said:
“Scottish Cycling is committed to advancing gender equality and providing opportunities for more women and girls to participate, progress and achieve in cycling. By signing the Brighton Plus Helsinki Declaration, we are reinforcing that commitment and joining a global network of like-minded organisations.”
Signing the Declaration marks another important step in Scottish Cycling’s ongoing work to support women and girls across all areas of the sport and help build a more inclusive future for cycling in Scotland.
