To help us understand how people are getting involved, the She Pedals Scotland team has created a quick and simple registration form. By filling it in, you’ll also have the chance to win £100!
With Saturday 14 June fast approaching, the team has been busy compiling the range of opportunities to get involved. From cycle races and reliability rides to leisurely Breeze rides, there are plenty of ways to take part. Some events are exclusively for women and girls, while others are open to everyone. Whether you’re heading out on your own, riding with friends, or taking part in an organised event, every way of joining in helps make She Pedals Scotland special.
Racing
For the racing enthusiasts, Torvelo Racing is hosting a road race as part of the Women’s Scotia Series. Taking place on the rolling Abington circuit, a favourite in the Scottish racing calendar, this race forms part of the National Scotia Series. Check out the course details here.
Reliability Trials
Similar to Audax events, Reliability Trials (also known as Reliability Rides) are non-competitive, self-supported distance rides following a pre-set route without signage, marshals, or a broom wagon. Riders are expected to be self-sufficient and navigate the course using their own knowledge, a map, or a GPS device.
- Elgin Cycling Club has organised a She Pedals Scotland Reliability Ride along a 70km route named Coastal Haze. Entry includes pre-ride refreshments of hot drinks and breakfast rolls.
- In Perthshire, choose from 19.5 or 31-mile routes starting from Coronation Park in Muthill, Crieff. Post-ride refreshments are provided, along with an optional game of bowls!
- Ythan Cycling Club is offering an out-and-back ride on quiet Aberdeenshire roads north of Ellon. Riders start from Ellon Academy and cycle for one hour at their own pace; no one rides alone. The ride then returns via the same route, finishing at a local hostelry for refreshments.
- In Ayrshire, Loudoun Road Club is hosting an open club ride as part of the DarVelo Cycling Festival. It’s not a dedicated She Pedals Scotland event, but all are welcome to enjoy the scenic route, good company, and some achievable climbs.
Traffic-Free Events
Enjoy cycling in a safe, enclosed environment:
- At Caird Park Velodrome (also known as the Mark Stewart Velodrome) in Dundee, there’s a women-and-girls-only session at 1pm to try track cycling for just £5.
- Kinross Cycling Club, in partnership with Kingdom Velo and Fife Cycle Park, is hosting an event at Fife Cycle Park from 10am to 1pm. Participants can enjoy the smooth, traffic-free circuit, with the option to join a led road ride as well. More details will be shared soon on the Events section of the She Pedals Scotland Facebook page.
Breeze Rides
Breeze is our programme to support more women (back) into cycling. Breeze rides are friendly, fun, and free to join. Led by trained and knowledgeable ride leaders, options range from easy-paced rides for beginners and returners to more challenging and mountain bike rides. Some rides are also open to women with children, helping those with caring responsibilities take part. Click here to search for a ride in your area.
Currently, She Pedals Scotland rides are available in the Scottish Borders (starting from Kelso, Tweedbank and Ancrum) Stirling, and Moray, with more being planned.
Club Rides
Several affiliated cycling clubs have organised She Pedals Scotland rides, including Moray Firth Cycling Club and Revolution CT. Check out the events listing on the She Pedals Scotland Facebook page, or get in touch with your local club to find out what they’ve got planned for the day.
