Speedway set for big 2026 with Scottish 4s League kicking off season

The Scottish 4s League roars back into action on 29 March, with the opening round staged at Redbraes Park, home of the Edinburgh Falcons. With five teams—Edinburgh Falcons, Fife Revolutions, Glasgow Cyclones, Borders Raiders and Northumbria Vikings—set to contest this year’s series, anticipation is building for what promises to be another fiercely competitive campaign.

Last season set a high benchmark. Fife Revolutions emerged as the dominant force, securing the overall series victory after consistently strong performances across the rounds. Their success was built around a powerful core of riders including Kayden DavidsonCallan Cuthbert, and Joshua Falconer, all of whom delivered in crucial heats.

Chasing them this season will be a hungry pack. Glasgow Cyclones showed flashes of brilliance last year and pushed hard in multiple rounds, with riders such as Andy MacDougallColin Grey, and Tomasz Majorke playing key roles in their challenge. If that trio can hit form early, Glasgow will be firmly in the mix for top honours.

Northumbria Vikings also demonstrated their strength through riders such as Jason Keith and Sam Stansfield, both capable of making a big impact in tight meetings. Their consistency saw them regularly challenging near the top, keeping the pressure on Fife throughout the series.

For the hosts, Edinburgh Falcons, the new season offers a chance to turn competitive performances into podium finishes. Alongside Nathan Slight, riders such as Ewan TullochNeil “Archie” McPherson, and Alex Matthews add further strength and depth to the Edinburgh lineup. With a blend of experience and emerging talent, and the advantage of racing at Redbraes Park, the Falcons will be aiming to make a strong statement in the opening round.

Falcons team captain Alex Matthews is relishing the start of the new campaign, saying: “This series always proves to be an exciting one with brilliant racing from start to finish. Cycle speedway is a lesser known sport, but is full of excitement whether you are on the bike racing, or spectating. I’d encourage anyone to contact their local club and get down to a training session to give it a try themselves.”

Meanwhile, the Borders Raiders will be looking to maintain their position at the top of the junior competition while continuing to build their senior team as a newly formed cycle speedway club. Their development-focused approach makes them an exciting team to watch as they grow within the league structure.

As the tapes rise in Edinburgh, all eyes will be on whether Fife can defend their crown or if one of their rivals can close the gap. With proven race winners, emerging talent, and tight team competition expected across the board, the 2026 Scottish 4s League looks set for another thrilling chapter.
