Updates to Disclosure Scotland’s PVG scheme

The results for the recent consultation into fees for the PVG scheme have been released. The government has decided that Qualifying Voluntary Organisations (QVO’s), which our clubs, groups and associations fit into, will not be required to pay fees for volunteers applying to the PVG Scheme.

This is a welcome relief, and we would like to thank all those clubs and members who fed into our survey to help inform our response to the consultation. Your voice gave further weight to our response.

In April the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020 becomes law. This will affect how we currently implement the PVG scheme. Along with other sports, we are seeking clarification about aspects of the Act and we will give further details as soon as we are able to. However, the most significant change, that has been clarified, is that from the 1 April 2025 anyone engaged in a role that requires a PVG will not be able to undertake that role until this has been obtained.

In the meantime, and to ensure that we are as prepared as possible, I would encourage all clubs who currently have roles that require PVG membership (eg those clubs working with children, or protected adults) to complete and return a PVG contract to us if you have not done this since May last year.

If you are unsure if your club has a PVG contract in place already, then please contact [email protected] and we will confirm. Once in place, it will allow your club to apply for PVG using the new PVG application process, which has been in place since May 2024.
