Youth & Junior Track
The Championships opened on Wednesday with Glasgow Riderz’ Mairi Nicholson producing a brilliant ride, clocking in a time of 37.136s to secure the first gold medal of the week in the Youth 500m time trial.
Nicholson would not have to wait long for her second British title, Thursday’s sprint competition saw an all-Glasgow Riderz final with Nicholson taking on teammate Femke McKenna. Both races were extremely tight but Nicholson just managing to edge it on the line to take her second gold of the week.
Nicholson and Glasgow Riderz would round off their sprint success in the non-Championship team sprint; Mackenna alongside Mairi Nicholson and sister Emma won the event on Sunday afternoon.
There was a strong week too for fellow Scottish youth Micah Myles. The Edinburgh RC sprinter battled tooth and nail in the youth sprint to guarantee himself a medal, by making the gold medal final. Two solid rides there saw him fall just short of the gold, but a great effort to take the silver on Wednesday afternoon. A second silver would follow in Friday’s keirin event, with another second place in the team sprint event. The Team Scotland & Ben squad made up of Ezra Ndiuini (Glasgow Riderz), Myles and Ben Justham (Beeston Cycling Club) narrowly missed out on top spot with a time of 48.704 seconds.
Myles work for the weekend was not done there however, a late call-up to the madison saw he and Reuben McLardie (Johnstone Wheelers) finish in fourth place.
In the juniors, Melanie Rowe claimed her first medal of the week on Wednesday with bronze in the junior individual pursuit. The Aberdeenshire native has been focusing more on the road this season but would back her pursuiting legs up in the bunch races with bronze in the scratch. There would be a third trip to the podium in the madison with bronze alongside Gabriella McHugh.
There was a similar story for Sam Martin (Team Ohten Aveas). A strong ride to bronze in the individual pursuit to start the week was followed by another bronze in Friday’s points race. A copper hat-trick of podiums was rounded off on Saturday when Martin and Zack Lowe (Prologue Racing Team) finished third in the junior madison.
Oscar Onley returned from his horrific crash at the Criterium du Dauphine with his first victory of 2026 at the Vuelta a Burgos (2.Pro) in Spain.
The Scot outsprinted Ciccone of Lidl-Trek on the mountain top finish of Stage 2 to take his first win in the colours of Netcompany-Ineos and head into the overall lead.

After losing a handful of seconds and the jersey to Felix Gall on Stage 3, Onley set his sights on the final climb to Lagunas de Neila on Saturday’s final stage.
A number of attacks from Onley and Ciccone were unable to drop the Austrian, with Onley requiring to realistically win the stage to the take the race win. An opportunistic attack by Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull-BORA) opened up a gap, which the Border climber attempted to chase down in the final metres. Onley managed to finish second on the stage, just three seconds behind the Italian, but with Gall firmly affixed to his rear wheel, the overall lead did not change hands.
Second place overall for the Scot, narrowly missing out on his first stage race win, but excellent form in his first race back from the crash that ruled him out of the Tour de France in June.
While over in Poland, there was more success for Callum Thornley (Red Bull-BORA). The Peebles rider claimed third place in the final stage time trial around the streets of Wieliczka – his first WorldTour top ten result.
National Road Series
Closer to home, Tim Shoreman sprinted to victory at the Beaumont Trophy in Northumberland on Sunday afternoon.
From the off, the peloton splintered with a lead group of ten riders over three minutes ahead of the next bunch. That group worked well together for the majority of the race itself, though the peloton behind reformed, bridging the gap to absorb the leaders by the final climb. A ferocious bunch downhill sprint of 30 riders would decide the race, though the Wheelbase Cabtech Castelli team were able to play a numbers game, leading out Shoreman to attack.
The Glasgow 2026 alumnus claims his second win of the season after a stage of Rás in Ireland earlier this summer.
The morning saw the women’s Curlew Cup with Handsling-Alba at the thick of the action. Arabella Blackburn chased down lone leader Nicola Quale (360cycling) and the two worked well to hold off the chase group in the final lap. Coming into the final sprint Quale would managed to claim the win over the young Scottish rider, with Blackburn having to settle for second.
Daisy Taylor (The HERA Project) would finish seventh, while tenth for Morven Yeoman (DAS-Hutchinson) ensures she remains top of the series standings with one round to go.
Time Trialling
Back home there was the Ian Longbotham Trophy for the 25 mile North Time Trial Championships with David Hutcheson (RT23) taking the win from Sam Glover (Elysium Kalas RT).
