Cyclocross (or CX) races are held on varied terrain, including grass, mud, sand and obstacles. Riders often dismount to carry their bikes over barriers. Races are typically short, intense, and held in autumn and winter, featuring laps on a short course.
Traditionally used as a training tool for road and MTB riders in the winter, CX has become a massively successful discipline in the winter, with its heartland in Belgium, and is growing year-on-year in Scotland.
