All clubs with under 18’s or Protected Adults must appoint a trained WPO. Clubs that don’t have under 18’s or Protected Adults require to appoint a WPO (who does not require to undertake training).

Wellbeing and Protection Officers

The main duties of the WPO:
- Act as the point of contact for any concerns that arise in your club and to work closely with the Scottish Cycling Wellbeing and Protection team to report and implement any required actions.
- Ensure safeguarding is a part of the planning and delivery of all club activity.
- Ensure club members know about the club Wellbeing and Protection standards and procedures for reporting any issues.
- Act as a point of contact for Scottish Cycling to help share updates, training and information that are related to safeguarding.
- Ensure the application, training and compliance of club volunteers with safeguarding standards: PVG Membership, CWPS training through our JustGo system.
A full role description can be found at in our Appendix 2 Club Wellbeing and Protection Officer.
Requirements of the WPO role at clubs with under 18 or Protected Adults:
- Membership of the PVG scheme linked to Scottish Cycling and the club
- Safeguarding awareness training
- For clubs with children this is Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport (CWPS) training
- For club with adults this could be either the training above, or UK Coaching Safeguarding Adults training
- Club Wellbeing and Protection Officer (WPO) training
Conflict of Interest
- The club WPO should be a committee position and not hold any other position that delivers activity for the club.
- The club WPO should not be related to any person delivering activity for the club.
- If the club WPO does deliver activity for the club or is a relative of an activity deliverer at the club, then a second WPO must be appointed. This will give a point of contact should a complaint be raised or conflict of interest arises through a complaint.
