Scottish Cycling has various governance structures in place to ensure members have a mechanism for helping shape the sport. If you would like to get involved in the sport but are not able to do so on the ground at events, you have good knowledge and experience that you would like to input into decision making, you like to think about the bigger picture and are able to see things from different perspectives and provide balanced and constructive ideas, this may be an ideal area for you to get involved in.
Governance roles
Commissions
More Info HereCommissions are advisory groups that support decision making, input into various projects and are a sounding board for the Scottish Cycling events team on all aspects of the sport.
The current structure includes the Commissaire Commission, focussing on officials appointment process and development, the Sport Commission, focussing on all aspects of sport development, and the Technical Commission, focussing on development of the technical regulations.
Meetings are usually weekday evenings online, 2-3 times a year, with some preparation required for each.
More information on the current commission structure can be found here. If you are interested in becoming a member of one of these groups, please get in touch via [email protected].
Regional Development Groups
Get in touchUnder our articles of association, Scottish Cycling is split into 6 Regions: North-East (Grampian)*, North-East (Tayside and Fife), North*, East and Central, West and South-West. Every club is allocated to a Region.
Two regions currently (as per *) have functioning Regional Development Groups, which bring together local clubs to collaborate. The remit and purpose of each RDG varies, but generally they are focused on supporting events and volunteers.
If your club is outwith these regions, then a group can be formed in your area if 25% of local clubs are in agreement. Please get in touch with [email protected] if you would like to discuss further.
Women’s Development Group
The Scottish Cycling Women’s Development Group is a national advisory and support forum to develop women and girls cycling. Membership is open to anyone with an interest and passion for developing women and girls cycling in Scotland. Ideally the membership will reflect the diversity within cycling, from participation to performance, including different disciplines, regions, and roles.
The group is currently on hold until the publication of the Scottish Cycling Women and Girls Strategy. The future plans for the group will be shared in due course. In the meantime, please contact Mel, our Women and Girls Development Manager, with any queries: [email protected]
Board
The Scottish Cycling Board is a group of dedicated volunteers who work on behalf of the membership. The board normally meets four times per year, with other ad-hoc meetings taking place outwith this. Board members are allocated to the four Strategic Groups of Finance & Governance, Performance and Coaching, Development & Participation, and DMBinS. Strategic Groups normally meet four times a year and are in addition to Board meetings. There are two routes through which to join the Board:
- Via election at the Annual General Meeting. Up to six Directors are elected this way, representing the membership of Scottish Cycling.
- Via appointment by the Board. Up to six Directors are elected this way, this helps to bring in required skillsets to support the overall work of the Board.
