This initiative, aligned with sportscotland’s Coaching Scotland framework and Scottish Cycling’s Developing a Nation of Cyclists 2.0 strategy, aims to build coaching capacity with a strong focus on inclusion, accessibility, and diversity.
Key Aims of the 2025-26 Subsidy:
- Increase opportunities for underrepresented groups in cycling.
- Ensure affordability and accessibility of coach education across Scotland.
- Embed equality, diversity, and inclusion in the coaching journey.
- Support coaches working with SIMD or rural communities.
Subsidies Available from May 2025 – 31 March 2026:
Coach Education Subsidy (British Cycling Coach Education Framework)
80% discount available for the following demographics:
- Rural Coaches
- Coaches with a Disability or working with riders with a disability
- Coaches from SIMD decile 1-4 (Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation) or working with riders from SIMD deciles 1-4
- Female Coaches
- Young Coaches (aged 14-25)
Applications must be submitted after booking and before the first seminar.
Mountain Bike Leadership Subsidy (Training Element Only)
50% discount (up to £200 max) available for:
- Rural Leaders
- Leaders with a Disability or working with rider with a disability
- Leaders from SIMD decile 1-4 or working with riders from SIMD deciles 1-4
- Female Leaders
- Young Leaders (aged 14–25)
Applications must be submitted after booking and before the first training day. Reimbursement is processed only after successful completion of the training element (assessment not included).
Important Notes:
- Funding is not guaranteed – applications are considered on a rolling basis, subject to funding availability . Early application is advised.
- Applicants must hold a valid British Cycling membership.
- Coaches/leaders can only apply for one category of subsidy.
- Applications received after a course begins will not be accepted.
