A perfect ten: Double Digit Medal Haul from Paris

Paralympics

The Paris Paralympics wrapped up with a brace of Scottish golds on the road.

Jenny Holl and Sophie Unwin battled their way to a fantastic gold in the Women’s B Tandem Road Race after they powered away from their Irish counterparts. Fin Graham claimed his first Paralympic Gold with a stunning display of tactical nous in the Men’s C1-3 Road Race despite being outnumbered by the host nation.

The medal haul between the Olympics and Paralympics reaches ten medals, an incredible feat from our Scottish riders throughout the Parisian Summer.

Tour of Britain

The Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain saw excellent performances by Oscar Onley, Callum Thornley and Sean Flynn.

1990 was the last time a Scot last won a jersey at the Tour and now there’s two of them! Oscar Onley and Callum Thornley were on top form all week as Britain’s biggest bike race travelled from Scotland to Suffolk.

British MTB Marathon

Rock UK in Newcastleton stepped up at short notice to host the Marathon Champs, producing a great course that tested riders skill and endurance.

One rider who had both qualities in abundance was Anna Flynn (Spectra) as she triumphed in the Female race to pull on the British stripes. After a race long tussle with Grace Inglis, Flynn prevailed by less than 10 seconds, making it a Scottish 1-2 on the podium.

In the open race, special mention to our V60 Scottish XC Champion Kenny Kentley (Velocity 44) who also made a trip to the podium, third in the V60s.

SDA Innerleithen

The final round of the Scottish Downhill Series took place at Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders, with Bethany McCully (Team Creation Cycles) and Calum McBain taking top honours. See the full results here.

A huge thanks to the Scottish Downhill Association for their hard work in delivering the events once again. We’ll have a full series round up soon.

Scotia Series

Sticking in the Scottish Borders, the final round of the Scotia Series was held with the Lothian Flyer Road Race in Peebles.

Rachel Galler (Saint Piran) wins the Women’s Lothian Flyer Road Race, the final round of the Scotia series. Rebecca Saunderson (Studio Velo) finished second and takes the series, with Michelle Short (Hawick CC) in third place.
