Cycle Speedway set for inaugural Scottish National Championships in 2024

The exhilarating and exciting discipline of Cycle Speedway will be the latest discipline to join the fold of officially sanctioned Scottish National Championships this summer.

Fife Cycle Speedway are delighted to be hosting the first ever Cycle Speedway Scottish National Championships on Sunday 15th September.

Fife have been integral to the development of Cycle Speedway in Scotland, working with Scottish Cycling to align with other disciplines and run the inaugural Scottish National Championships

If you are unaware Cycle Speedway, not to be confused with motorcycle speedway, speedway is one of our lesser-known disciplines, that looks and feels very similar to its motorized equivalent. Riding around a small dirt oval, riders will slide through the corners to take the fastest line. Even better, it’s accessible, affordable, and family-oriented.

Fife believe that hosting such a prestigious event will elevate the sport and introduce it to thousands of cyclists across the country.

Club Secretary and Event Organiser, Craig Masson, said:
“Since the establishment of Fife Cycle Speedway I have not only had a determination to grow the club but help grow the sport of Cycle Speedway across Scotland. I am delighted of the progress the club has made since 2017. Three-time Division 2 champions, Scottish League champions, multi-nominated for several prestigious awards.

“I am also heartened by the relationship I have with Scottish Cycling and the interest and support they have given in recent years. This has all cumulated into our club membership growing, our female cohort, a new club established in the Borders and now the first ever Cycle Speedway Scottish National Championships on 15th September, which will be hosted at our Fife track. We are confident it will be a fantastic event to showcase Cycle Speedway, helping the sport continue to grow and delighted its added to the Scottish Cycling calendar of events.”

Tarn Fynn, Events Manager at Scottish Cycling, added:

“We are super excited to see the addition of cycle speedway to the National Championships Calendar on the 15th of September. The incredible work that Fife Cycle Speedway are putting in to develop the discipline in Scotland has made them a deserving host the first edition of the event!

The move to have Cycle Speedway recognised with a national championship has been in the pipeline for a couple of years, and so it’s great to see this come to fruition.”

  • Veterans (O40s)
  • Seniors
  • Juniors (U18s)
