Double Delight for Elgin CC in Endurance Test

It was the ultimate test of endurance in the Highlands; as Invergordon was the venue for the Scottish National 100-mile Time Trial Championships on Sunday morning, hosted by Elgin CC.

It was a stunning morning as riders faced the 100-mile or 161km course along the A9. The top riders in the ultra-endurance discipline expect to complete the course in just under four hours, with Sunday being no different.

Sam Glover (Elgin CC) claimed the senior title with a time of 3:55:22, just besting second placed rider Andy Bruce (Vanelli-Project GO) by a mere 58 seconds. Mark Walker (Deeside Thistle) claimed the bronze medal, and was hot on the heels of the leading two, with a time of 3:56:47 – meaning that just over a minute separated the medallists over 100 miles of time trialling.

Lorna Breetzke made it double delight for the host club, Elgin CC. Breetzke claimed the female title with a strong time of 4:22:22, besting Miriam Rennet (Kinross CC) to silver and Laura Shearer (Moray Firth CC), who claimed bronze.

As well as a standalone championship, the 100 Champs, play a key role in the Best All Rounder Championship for senior open riders, as one of the qualifying events.

A huge thank you to Diane MacIver and the team at Elgin Cycling Club for organising another brilliant event, and to their team of volunteers for making the Championships possible.
