Scottish Cyclocross Series
Muir of Ord in Easter Ross was the venue for round two of the HUPcc Scottish Cyclocross Series.
Junior rider Freya Mowbray (Scotia Offroad RT) would impress again to take victory in the Female race, besting top senior Natalie Munro, in a thrilling finale to finish a great battle of the likes we like to see. After exchanging the lead several times, Mowbray would surge clear at the end of final lap to claim the win by seven seconds from Munro.
Grace Norman and Monica Anderson joining Munro on the senior podium, in second and third, respectively. In the Vet categories Janine Inman would take the V40s win, whilst Helen Winton would take the V60 win. One of the stories of the day though was Megan Mowbray (mother of Freya) winning the V50 race and was the third rider overall across the line, making it a family affair on the podium.
Charles Fletcher dominated the Senior Open from the gun, moving into pole position in the fight for the series crown. In the end the Borders’ based rider won by some 50 seconds ahead of Grant Scott and Neil Scott.
In the combined Open Junior and V40 race, the elder statesmen showed their younger counterparts how it’s done, with the first three across the line coming from the Vet class. Brian McCardle went clear of eventual second and third place riders Scott Smith and David Ogden to take the win.
In the Junior ranks Ross Easthaugh was triumphant, improving on his third place at Camperdown, with Alasdair Easton coming home in second, whilst Edward Lindsay was third.
The day started with a thrilling finale to the U16 Open race, Arran Drackford and Xander Graham battling all the way to the line. With the FJBC rider Drackford claiming his first win in the series. Joel Gillian would take the final podium place.
In the same race, Josh Stewart (SteppingStanes) would take the U14 win – no surprise given he overcame a start straight crash at the National Trophy in Derby last weekend to take the win – the Stepping Stanes rider would come home fifth overall. Thomas MacLeod and Alexander Mullen would complete the U14 Open podium.
In the U16 Female race Emma Campbell of Deeside Thistle would take an impressive solo win, with Imogen Hammond coming home in second place, whilst Clydesdale Colts’ Boo Williams would win out in the U14 category; she would best Eilidh Scally and Ella McQueen.

That was one of four medals won by Jude Patterson, with a silver in the individual pursuit adding to team sprint silver and a bronze in the points race.
Andy Bruce (Vanelli) won bronze in the individual pursuit at the 50-54 age group. In the 55-64 men Peter Ettles (RT23) and Mike Twelves were part of the British squad that claimed gold in the team pursuit to become World Champions.
