Scottish Cycling is delighted to announce that the sand dunes of Irvine will host the 2024 Scottish National Cyclocross Championships this December.
A popular venue on the Ayrshire coast, Irvine has played host to rounds of the British Cyclocross Trophy in recent years, people from across the UK loving the seaside venue and the unique course that it serves up.
Having hosted a round of the Scottish Cyclocross Series in 2023, it steps up this year to take on the challenge of putting on a memorable national championships, with co-organisers Hannah Kemlo and Alan Anderson more than up to the task.
Irvine will also bring the Scottish Cyclocross Series to a grand finale on Sunday 1st December, the national champs doubling up as the sixth and final round.
After listening to feedback from the cyclocross community, the premiere race series in Scotland presents an exciting calendar, a mix of old and new venues, with a good geographical and date spread.
As was the case in 2023, Kinneil CX will get the season underway in September, before trips north to Muir of Ord, and Brechin in October. Sticking with the East coast, round four of the series sees the ever-popular Camperdown Country Park included once again having hosted the national championships in 2022 and 2023, before a trip to a new venue – Chatelherault Country Park in Hamilton – before Irvine brings the curtain down.
Once again, the SCX Series, the pinnacle of ‘cross racing in Scotland, is laid out to support those travelling to compete at the British CX Trophies, encouraging regional and grassroots racing on these weekends, ensuring there are racing opportunities for everyone.
With less than six months to go until the season gets underway, we can officially say that #crossiscoming
