Last year, She Pedals Scotland reached more than 600 women and girls across 30 local authority areas in Scotland, representing 82 cycling clubs and groups. Building on that success, the team has ambitious plans to double registrations in 2026.
Registration is now open, and all women and girls in Scotland are invited to sign up and share their plans for riding during the She Pedals Scotland weekend. It doesn’t matter what type of bike you ride, what kind of cycling you enjoy, how far you go, or how fast you ride – every cycling activity counts. Whether it’s cycling to the shops, meeting friends, joining a Breeze or club ride, attending a cycling festival, or taking part in a sportive or challenge event, what you do is entirely up to you.
We spoke to organisers Lorna Breetzke and Diane Maciver to hear their thoughts as preparations get underway for 2026. Lorna said:
“At She Pedals Scotland, we’re very excited to see our little idea continuing to grow as a celebration of women in cycling, and we’re already starting to see a shift in how many women feel confident about getting involved. The sense of support and community is really powerful, and we’re excited to open registrations this weekend and welcome even more riders this year.”
Diane shared her delight at seeing She Pedals Scotland return for another year:
“Last year was amazing, and it was so motivating to see all the social media posts of women and girls out cycling.”
She hopes that even more women and girls will take part this year and experience the joy of riding a bike.
To help boost engagement and local activity, the She Pedals Scotland team has expanded to include a group of female ambassadors, recruited for their love of cycling and their desire to see more women and girls involved in the sport. Diane highlighted how the new role also links with the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day:
“Great to launch the ambassador role for She Pedals Scotland 2026. This enables us to cover the north, south, east, and west of Scotland – the number that have signed up is overwhelming.
It’s International Women’s Day this weekend and the theme is ‘Give to Gain’. I think this perfectly encapsulates the ambassador role – passionate female cyclists giving up their time to promote more women and girls into cycling.”
Lorna was equally delighted by the response to the ambassador opportunity:
“We were blown away by the response to our call for She Pedals Scotland ambassadors and are incredibly grateful to everyone who signed up. We’re so excited to now have a fantastic group of women involved from right across Scotland. Keep an eye on the She Pedals Scotland Facebook page for rides and events happening in your area.”
The team are also pleased to share an opportunity for school-aged girls to become She Pedals Scotland Cheer Champions – enthusiastic supporters of the campaign. Cheer Champions are supported by their families to help identify and take part in local activities. For more information or to express an interest, please email [email protected].
We’ll continue to share updates as plans develop for what promises to be another fantastic weekend celebrating women and girls in cycling across Scotland.
