If you’re keen to get involved, but haven’t ridden the track before, check out Glasgow Life’s website for info on how to get started and the accreditation process, which will need to be completed before entering some of the events listed below, or for younger riders, contact the Johnstone Jets.
All the list of events below could not happen without the work of incredible volunteers. If you’re not sure racing is for you, but you would like to become part of the track community and help support the development of future stars through the delivery of events, please contact [email protected]. With the Commonwealth Games just around the corner, and major events regularly held at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, who knows where taking this step could lead you!
Glasgow Track League
Track League offers a fun, social racing opportunity every Friday evening from the 6th October and is the ideal alternative to sitting on the turbo on your own. It provides an excellent, friendly environment to try tactics out and put yourself outside of your comfort zone, and help build towards other goals in the season such as weekend Track events or Cyclocross races for the mud-bath inclined. This year the league is planning some new formats, with a Sprint specific group planned on the 25th October and 22nd November and Female specific group on the 1st and 29th November. Before entering an event, join the league here.
Monsters of Track
There are also five Monsters of Track events planned this year at the start of each month, offering youth specific racing and points scoring opportunities throughout. Big shoutout to the Johnstone Jets for hosting this fantastic series of events each year!
Scottish Championships
The Scottish National Track Championships take place 13th-15th December, with slight adjustments to last years edition. The event will once again include a Paracycling GP alongside the Scottish Championship events, and there will be the addition of support races for youths, and seniors who don’t feel at home entering the Championship races yet. The programme is varied with bunch races, sprint, keirin, individual and team timed events all taking place across the weekend.
After a short Christmas break, dates for the diary also include the Scottish Madison Championships and Dernyfest (25th/26th January), the GTRC Sprint GP (TBC), and youth riders might also want to keep the 9th March free for some more action packed racing. Keep your eyes peeled for more track events in 2025 as we plan the Summer racing calendar.
