The Scotia Road Race Series, sponsored by Santini, is continuing to build momentum across Scotland, creating welcoming and inclusive opportunities for women to experience the excitement of road racing. Designed as the perfect introduction to road racing, the series combines a supportive atmosphere with plenty of competitive spirit, helping riders of all abilities gain confidence, challenge themselves, and discover what they’re capable of on the bike.
Claire Cameron, Chairperson of Peebles Cycling Club, decided to take part in the Glasgow Nightingale CC – Lake of Menteith race as an opportunity to better understand the rider experience ahead of hosting Peebles Cycling Club’s first women’s road race. As someone also new to road racing, Claire found the experience both welcoming and inspiring. “It was so reassuring to meet other women who were also new to racing. There’s something really special about sharing those first-time nerves and excitement together — it instantly made it feel less intimidating. It was also so lovely to meet so many women who share the same passion for cycling “
Claire said taking part gave valuable insight into how important a supportive environment can be for riders entering the sport for the first time, something Peebles Cycling Club is keen to build on when hosting the next round of the Scotia Road series on Saturday 6th June. It will be the very first time the club has hosted a women’s only race, and alongside an all women organising committee, the club are dedicated to providing a supportive, competitive environment that encourages more women to enter the sport and progress with confidence. Another key driver is thanks to Scottish Cycling’s Regional Sport Development fund supporting the women’s Gifford and Peebles Road races, this has helped support clubs to deliver an exciting 2026 season for women’s racing.
With growing participation, encouraging stories from first-time racers, and clubs across Scotland embracing inclusive racing opportunities, the Scotia Road Race Series is proving to be an important step forward for women’s cycling in Scotland.
There are 3 races left in this series with entries available here.
