Junior
A close qualifying round saw Brodie Duncan (West Lothian Clarion) set the early pace, before his time was bested in the final heat by the Beeston CC duo of Sam Martin and Evan Marsh.
Duncan would improve on his personal best, set in qualifying, to take the bronze medal, but in the fight for gold Martin bettered his teammate to take gold, with a time of 3:22.195 in the final over the 3km distance.
The final race of the day would see the 40-lap scratch race – always an exciting prospect – but with a number of attacks fluttered throughout – it became a gripping watch.
Evan Marsh was one that was constantly looking to move clear of the field, his late attack would be caught in the dying embers of the final lap to come home in fifth.
The race would be won by Sam Martin – his second success of the day – with Colin Johnston (Vanelli Project GO) besting teammate Zach Barbour to third.
In the junior open sprint Oscar Parker (Glasgow Track RC) would best Connor Macarthur (Team HUP), after winning in the first round.
Kayla Dinnin (Liv Halo) claimed the junior female pursuit title after catching Eva Murphy (Deeside Thistle) in the final, with Abigail Chaplin (Solas Cycling) in third place.
It would be a similar story in the scratch race, with Dinnin followed by Murphy and Chaplain across the line.
Youth A
Fraser Gemmell (West Lothian Clarion) claimed the first title of the weekend with- victory in the Youth A 500 Time Trial with a 35.127, with Andrew Levinson (Edinburgh RC) and Micah Myles (Edinburgh RC) in bronze.
Levinson would exchange spots with Gemmell in the individual pursuit, with the Edinburgh RC rider besting his West Lothian counterpart by three seconds in the final – Levinson’s 2:16.726 for the 2km effort – the time to beat, Hamish Mayes would claim bronze.
Gemmell would have the final say in the points race, scoring near maximum points in the 50 lap race to take the victory from Andrew Levinson in second place, Ollie Mayes rode well to take the bronze medal.
Zara Main (Deeside Thistle) opened her account for the weekend with victory in the female Youth A 500m TT, with her 39.396 enough to take the victory from Eve Fairbairn (Discovery Junior) and Kasey Park (Edinburgh RC) both on the podium.
Main would add to her tally in the individual pursuit in the afternoon – taking the silver medal. The gold however would go to teammate Melanie Rowe 2:31.691 – who comes into these Champs straight off the back of her win at the Tour of Flanders last weekend. Bronze would go to Eve Fairbairn (Discovery Juniors).
Zara Main would take victory in the points race – after taking the first and final two sprints, with familiar faces of Eve Fairbairn and Millie Boothman in second and third.
