Scottish Cycling Officials and Staff to support Glasgow 2026

Glasgow 2026 is just a week away and many well-kent faces from across the Scottish cycling scene are supporting the Games for either the Glasgow 2026 organisers or Team Scotland.

Eight Scottish Commissaires and Officials will form part of the 20-strong Technical Officials team taking from across the Commonwealth.

Scotland’s sole representative of the International Commissaires is UCI Commissaire David Menzies.

Menzies, who was also team manager for the Team Scotland squad at 1998 Commonwealth Games in Malaysia, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He was the Commissaire-President at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and has been part of many major international competitions on both the track and road.

Joining him are seven National Commissaires, who are regularly part of officiating track events at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Caird Park, including both Glasgow Track League and Scottish National Championships.

Audrey Walker, Helen Probart, Paul Mullen, Tom Forbes, Catriona Stirling, Ann Urquhart and Kathy Gilchrist will be integral to the smooth delivery of the racing in a variety of roles including timekeeping, judging and starting across the four days of racing.

The Team Behind The Team

Many of the Scottish Cycling Performance team will be joining Team Scotland for the Games led by Performance Director David Somerville.

Endurance Coaches Evan Oliphant and Luisa Steele as well as Scottish Cycling’s sprint lead Ryan Lateward will be joined by Great Britain Cycling Team coach Chris Heaton trackside. Performance Manager Maddy Watson will ensure the smooth running of logistics for the team as the Sport Team Manager.

Supporting the Team Scotland cycling squad will be sportscotland Institute for Sport’s David Brandie and Pete Bonner. Race Mechanics Alex Jaffrey and Mark Smith will ensure all bikes are in the best condition for athletes, while soigneurs Carly Anne Patten and Gregg Coombes will be on hand to support the riders.

Individuals in the events team have also been seconded to the Games, looking to gain knowledge and experience to benefit their roles in supporting the development of domestic cycling in future. Ruth Hall, Workforce Officer, has been seconded to Glasgow 2026 for six months in the role of Technical Officials Coordinator. Events Manager, Tarn Fynn, joins for two weeks in the position of Protocol Venue Deputy Manager as part of their Experiential Learning Programme.

Many will be happy to hear that former Team Scotland athlete Lewis Stewart will be on commentary, providing his own expert opinion and analysis on the track events from the 31 July until the 3 August for viewers on TNT Sports and Channel 5.

While there are very few cycling tickets available (less than 20 between all sessions as of Tue 14 Jul), tickets are available for other sports from just £10. Check them out here.
