Scottish Cycling recruiting as the Tour de France comes to Edinburgh

How do you fancy working on the biggest bike race in the world, which starts in Scotland for the very first time in 2027?

The Grand Depart of the Tour de France will take place in Edinburgh in July 2027, the first time the race has ever set foot on Scottish shores, and Scottish Cycling is looking for two individuals to lead its social impact work and ensure the event leaves a long-lasting benefit for Edinburgh and Scotland.

The first post is a Social Impact Project Lead, who will be tasked with driving the development and delivery of a transformative social impact strategy that uses cycling to improve the lives of people across Scotland. This role will work closely with internal teams within Scottish Cycling, as well as key event partners such as the Scottish Government and British Cycling, to ensure a coordinated and impactful approach.

The second post is a Social Impact Coordinator, and they will support the delivery of a nationwide social impact strategy, working closely with the Social Impact Project Lead, internal teams, and external partners. This role will assist in the coordination of programmes that contribute to health improvement, economic growth, and thriving communities across Scotland.

The Grand Depart is the official start of the three week-long Tour de France, however these posts will ensure there is tangible impact long before July 2027. There are three overarching social impact outcomes that all UK wide event partners are collectively looking to contribute to before, during and after the 2027 TdF and these are health, economic growth and thriving communities. This post will work closely with British Cycling’s Social Impact team to help deliver six UK wide programmes, along with the opportunity for tailored Scottish initiatives. Some potential examples of these projects are a girls cycling programme, school engagement, employability, and arts and cultural initiatives.

These aims go hand-in-hand with Scottish Cycling’s strategic objectives, which are to develop a nation of cyclists, inspiring and supporting everyone to enjoy riding a bike and have the opportunity to realise their full potential. As the largest cycling membership organisation in Scotland, we are the voice of the sport, representing the aspirations of our community.

Scottish Governing Body of the Year in 2023, we are an organisation that is driving positive chance across all areas of the sport, from success at international level, to providing opportunities for people from underrepresented communities to have access to a bike.

If you’re passionate about changing lives and believe cycling is the perfect vehicle to do so, then these roles may well be for you.
